Yeovil missed out on the chance to go back to the top of League Two when they slipped to a shock first home defeat of the season against a Macclesfield side with only one win in eight previous away games.

The Glovers only had themselves to blame as they wasted plenty of chances in the second half, which they totally dominated, and were punished four minutes from time when Jonathan Parkin was on the spot to hammer home his eighth goal of the season.

In the first half Yeovil went behind in the 21st minute when Parkin sent Paul Harsley away on the left and his cross was run into his own net by Yeovil skipper Terry Skiverton as his raced back to clear.

Yeovil had chances to equalise with the best of them falling to the league's top scorer Phil Jevons in the 38th minute but his usual lethal finish was lacking.

Yeovil started the second half brightly and Gavin Williams weaved through the defence before firing his shot inches wide from the far post.

However, Yeovil's equaliser inevitably came in the 51st minute when Darren Way fired in from the left after creating space and the ball skidded off the greasy surface under keeper Alan Fettis.

Yeovil kept pushing forward but had a setback mid-way through the half when Skiverton, their inspirational captain came off worse in a 50-50 challenge while Matthew Carragher and had to be taken off with an ankle injury.

Yeovil continued to attack as Liam Fontaine joined in with his strikers and had a fierce drive tipped over, while in a succession of goal scrambles Macclesfield somehow managed to hang on.

Substitute Mike Sheron fired over from four yards in the 83rd minute as Macclesfield began to grown in confidence and Parkin's winner sent their small band of travelling fans back to Cheshire in happy mood.
