Wycombe and Macclesfield shared the spoils with a 1-1 at the Causeway Stadium. Wycombe defender Roger Johnson equalised in the second half after Jon Parkin had scored for the Cheshire side.

The first half was littered with chances for both sides. Veteran striker Steve Claridge shot over for the home side after four minutes, and then Johnson had a header cleared off the line as Steve Guppy's deliveries caused chaos in the Silkmen's defence.

Macclesfield, having weathered the early storm, started to find their feet. Parkin struck the bar with a 20-yard shot after17 minutes, and then 10 minutes later a frantic goalmouth scramble ended with a shot cleared of the Wycombe line.

The home crossbar was also struck, but it was Parkin who broke the deadlock. Taking the ball on his chest with his back to goal 20 yards out, he turned Stuart Nethercott and fired the ball into the bottom left-hand corner after 36 minutes.

The home side, after a period of sustained pressure, equalised after 55 minutes. In the first 10 minutes of the second half Macclesfield had cleared the ball off the line three times, but it was Johnson who placed his header wide of Alan Fettis and then celebrated in front of visiting boss Brian Horton.

Both teams then had chances, and the home side also had a flurry of corners without managing to find the killer delivery.
