Goalkeeper Steve Wilson's brave, brilliant display clinched another precious point for lowly Macclesfield at Torquay.
Wilson saved an Alex Russell penalty in the first half with his side leading 2-1.
He needed a fitness test during the interval before carrying on despite a painful back injury that stopped him kicking from dead ball situations but he gave a mistake-free display and pulled off a vital save in stoppage time.
"Steve played through the pain which showed what sort of character he is," said manager Dave Moss.
"He has such great hands, as he showed with that brilliant save at the finish.
"We are gradually pulling ourselves out of trouble. We are a hard team to play against. We've played against all the promotion hopefuls and we haven't lost to any of them." Torquay will be kicking themselves for dropping two more home points which could cost them dear in the promotion race.
They even led after four minutes, when Jo Kuffour flicked home Alex Russell's right wing free kick at the near post.
But poor defending allowed on-loan striker John Miles to run past a series of opponents and fire the equaliser in the tenth minute.
And Torquay's marking also failed them when Kyle Lightbourne powered home a free header from Darren Dunning's left wing corner in the 25th minute.
Wilson managed to hold onto Russell's 41st minute penalty, after Darren Tinson was adjudged to have pushed Tony Bedeau.
The Gulls piled on the pressure in the second half and Russell hit the bar before Martin Gritton volleyed his 15th goal of the season from a tight angle in the 61st minute.
Even then, Wilson had parried Simon Clist's goal-bound first shot.
Torquay lived dangerously at the back in the closing stages, but it was left to Wilson to make certain of Macclesfield's point when he dived low in a crowded goalmouth to smother David Graham's fierce shot in stoppage time.
"People say that four draws on the trot at home, but I think it is another point gained for us," said Torquay boss Leroy Rosenior.
"We didn't play great today, but that's nine games unbeaten and we've been winning away from home.
"All we can do is keep picking up points and hope it's enough at the end of the season." Macclesfield defender Karl Munroe, booked for dissent in the first half, received a red when he was cautioned again for comments made to referee Paul Rejer in the tunnel after the final whistle.
