Silkmen end run

Macclesfield recorded their first win for nearly three months and hammered another nail in the coffin of Stockport's hopes of retaining their Football League status with a 4-1 victory.

County dominated early on and in the 25th minute James Wallace, making his debut on loan from Everton, received the ball on the edge of the area and launched a superb curling shot into the top left hand corner of the net.

But that goal sparked Macclesfield into life and within eight minutes they were level, Izak Reid receiving the ball 30 yards from goal and launching a skidding shot which slid beyond Matt Glennon.

Despite dominating the rest of the half, Macclesfield had to wait until after the break to go in front when Tyrone Barnett hammered home from close range.

A third came on the hour as Reid's free-kick put the County defence under pressure and home skipper Paul Turnbull headed past his own keeper.

Hamza Bencherif added a fourth with a tap in seven minutes later.
