Macclesfield manager Brian Horton believes his side should challenge for promotion next year but would not be drawn on whether he would still be in charge.
Having come to the Moss Rose to pull off a great escape act he saw his side take ten points from a possible twelve with a second half equaliser. The boss said: "I've not seen any side better than us in this division, and now I want us to go unbeaten to the end of the season. It is up to the Board whether I stay or not. All I will say is that I am loving every moment." Hull City manager Peter Taylor admitted he would travel half the world to see his side pick up promotion after 19 years at the lowest level: "We need another three points and will try to get them at Scunthorpe but quite frankly I wouldn't mind if they came in Japan." He added: "We started well and scored a tremendous goal but they then caused us a lot of problems which I thought we had weathered until we conceded." Macclesfield were caught cold in the fifth minute when former Stockport striker Ben Burgess flicked on an Andrew Dawson corner for muscular centre-back Marc Joseph to bury with a clinical volley at the far post. Hull should have extended their lead on 20 minutes, striker Danny Allsopp squandering Stuart Green's intelligent pass by firing straight at Macc keeper Steve Wilson.
The Cheshire side then took control, Graham Potter seeing a long-range header cleared off the line by Burgess, before George Abbey punched another looping attempt off the crossbar. Macclesfield deservedly equalised in the 64th minute, Steve Payne picking out Matthew Tipton for the striker to bury his 19th goal of the season and to equal Richie Barker's club league record of 16.
Macclefield should have stolen all the points at the death, young centre-back Michael Welch planting a header into the crowd with the goals at his mercy.
