Downcast Yeovil manager Gary Johnson was in no mood to talk after his side's sickening surrender at battling Macclesfield.

He uttered just 11 words before marching back into the dressing room to read the riot act: "The talking has to stop and action has to be taken," he said.

Macc manager David Moss was more inclined to shoot the breeze: "I'm delighted that we scored four goals and though I was tense when we conceded we came back with a couple of crackers." In particular he picked out goalscorers Danny Whitaker and Martin Carruthers who both bagged a brace.

"If there is a better free-scoring midfielder in the division than Danny Whitaker than I'm yet to see him.

"As for Martin Carruthers I bought him to score 20 goals a season and he's already on target. He's a real handful." Macclesfield took the lead when a Carruthers shot in the seventh minute looped off Roy O'Brien to leave Chris Weale stranded.

They added the second on 20 minutes when Whitaker returned a weak headed clearance with a stunning volley to the top corner.

Yeovil were handed a lifeline in the 63rd minute when Macclesfield failed to respond to a quick free-kick from Lee Johnson allowing the unmarked Adam Lockwood to burry a close-range header.

However the home side were not to be denied and in the 77th minute Carruthers raced on to a punt from his keeper before drilling a low shot into the far corner from 15 yards.

Whitaker saved the best until last coming off the right wing before lashing a stunning left-foot shot into the roof of the net from 25 yards.
