Striker Jordan Rhodes netted his third goal in two games to help a resurgent Huddersfield power into the FA Cup third round with a 6-0 thrashing of Macclesfield.

Rhodes, who hit a brace in the league against MK Dons on Tuesday, started this one-sided rout by heading in a Gary Roberts cross in the 19th minute.

Anthony Pilkington doubled the lead soon after with a classy curler while Benik Afobe made it 3-0 by toe poking through goalkeeper Jose Veiga's legs in first half stoppage time.

The Terriers produced an impressive display after performance coach Steve Black left the club on Friday and the players held clear-the-air talks with chairman Dean Hoyle over comments made in his match programme notes last weekend.

The intensity did not let up after the break, with defender Jamie McCombe turning in a 49th-minute Graham Carey corner at the near post.

Antony Kay made it 5-0 with a powerful blast five minutes later and Macclesfield's afternoon was summed up in the 73rd minute when Pilkington robbed Paul Morgan and squared for Roberts to tap in.
