An understrength young Macclesfield Town Reserve Team travelled yesterday to Cumbria to play Carlisle United Reserves. The team featured Steve Wilson in goal and the return of Neil Morgan. Tommy Rooney was missing due to illness. Keeping the Wayne Rooney connections, a young Everton triallist Brian Moogan played in midfield.

Neil Ross limped off after ten minutes. Carlisle took a 3-0 lead before late goals from Steve Brackenridge and Marvin McDonald restored some dignity to the scoreline.
