Tommy Widdrington has signed a new one year deal to stay at the Moss Rose and has been rewarded for his loyalty by being given the Captain's armband.
Widdrington was one of the signings made by David Moss when he came on a free transfer from Hartlepool as the Pool won promotion up to the Second Division. Tommy made 38 appearances last season for the Silkmen and came on once as a substitute. The ebullient Geordie picked up 8 yellow cards in both league and cup games as he stamped his authority on the midfield. Always in the thick of things and always ready to give his opinion, Tommy is a natural replacement for the captaincy with the departure of Chris Priest.
Tommy has been Captain before for Brian Horton. At Port Vale, Widdy was brought in by Horton from Grimsby Town. Tommy says that Horton's "no-nonsense style" is one of the reasons he re-signed.
