Yeo played for the Silkmen back in 2008/09, scoring seven goals before further spells in non-league with Droylsden, Harrogate Town and most recently New Mills.
He currently works at Manchester Airport and will combine his work there with assisting Macclesfield boss Gary Simpson and his backroom team.
"I think first up its important that we say that Simon hasn't been signed to address our goalscoring problems," said Simpson.
"We know he's got an uncanny eye for goal and the ability to be in the right place at the right time. But he's not played for a while so his role is more in the background.
"However, knowing the lad as I do, if gets fit there's a chance we might see him on the bench at some time in the future. But for now his role is more one of a talisman."
