Silkmen away at Hartlepool for Carling Cup First Round

It's a trip up to Victoria Park, Hartlepool for the Silkmen in the Carling Cup, the game to be played in week commencing August 23rd, 2004. Macclesfield should not be too worried as the club have a good record away from home against the Pool, winning three of the five visits in the Football League ( the other two were drawn) as well as winning 4-2 there in the F.A. Cup in season 1997-98, Stuart Whitaker and Steve Wood each scoring two goals.
Hartlepool play in a division higher than Macclesfield and lost out on promotion in the playoffs last season.
Mention of Stuart Whitaker, leads to the question of whether Macclesfield's leading scorer in the competition, Danny Whitaker can get back into the starting line up to increase on the four goals he has already scored.
Should be a good game and should be a good test for Brian Horton's revamped team.
